Gene Hessler

Mr. Hessler holds SPMC member #3157, life member #100 and honorary life member #10. He served the society as governor from 1987-2001 and editor of Paper Money from 1984-1998. He also served as awards committee chair in 1996 and publications committee chair in 1992-1993. He was awarded an SPMC president's award of merit in 1994 and 2005. For outstanding service to the society, he was awarded the Founder's award in 2008 and the Nathan Gold Memorial award in 1974 and 1990. A prolific exhibitor, he won numerous exhibit awards including the Stephen Taylor best-in-show exhibit award in 1985 as well as the Julian Blanchard exhibit award in 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993 and 2000. Also a prolific writer, besides winning numerous literary awards, he won the Dr. Glenn Jackson literary award in 1991 and 1997 and the Forrest Daniel Excellence in Literature in 2008. He received the ANA Glenn Smedley award in 1993; the Medal of Merit in 1995; a Presidential Award in 1998 and the Farran Zerbe award in 2008. In 2007, he was the recipient of the NLG's Clemy. He was the author of  The Comprehensive Catalog of U. S. Paper Money; U.S. Essay, Proof and Specimen Notes; Illustrated History of U.S. Loans; The Engraver's Line and The International Engraver's Line.
